Extortion terror grips govt offices, traders

Nepalgunj: Donation collection in the name of several underground armed outfits and political parties has terrorized government and non-governmental organisations in this mid-western town.

Donation demand almost on a daily basis has panicked government agencies, said Chief District Officer of Banke, Birendra Bahadur Baniya. He said the local administration office has to spend Rs. 500-1,000 daily as various sister organisations of political parties come seeking donation.

The District Administration Office, District Forest Office, District Development Committee, District Agricultural Office, Sikta Irrigation Project and Nepalgunj Municipality are among two dozen government offices who are the victims of donation terror.

Meanwhile, underground armed groups

are giving nightmares to businessmen, demanding hefty sums in donations.

A businessman on condition of anonymity said

the fear of the armed outfits makes victims reluctant to inform security agencies about their ordeal.
