Finance ministry finalising CEO selection process for DCGF, Nepse

Kathmandu, September 15

Ministry of Finance (MoF) is finalising the process to select a chief executive officer for the Deposit and Credit Guarantee Fund (DCGF). It has short-listed five candidates for CEO of DCGF, who had made their presentations at MoF on Thursday. MoF has also already taken their interviews and studied their business plans.

According to Shishir Kumar Dhungana, revenue secretary at the MoF and chief of the selection committee, the top three candidates from among the five that have been short-listed will be recommended to the Cabinet to take up the mantle at DCGF.

According to Revenue Secretary Dhungana, the five short-listed candidates are Ghamansingh Karki, Bishnu Mishra, Bhashkar Rimal, Binod Bahadur Karki and Shree Prasad Paudel.

“As per terms of reference provided to us, we will select three candidates from the five short-listed and forward their names to the Cabinet, which will make the final call in appointing the CEO at DCGF,” said Dhungana.

As a deposit insurer, DCGF started deposit guarantee scheme from 2010. It is a system that protects depositors against loss of their deposits placed with banks and financial institutions (BFIs) in case of BFIs’ failure.

The selection committee formed under Dhungana had earlier published a notice seeking applications for the aforementioned post within August 14.

Similarly, another committee formed to select a general manager at the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) has finalised five candidates from the 13 applications that it had received. The selection committee, led by Joint Secretary at MoF Uttar Kumar Khatri, will begin the final interview and study the presentations of the short-listed candidates on Sunday.

Along with former Nepse GM Sitaram Thapaliya, Manoj Gnyawali, Chandra Singh Saud, Prabin Pandak and Pramod Raj Sharma are the top five candidates. MoF began the process to select a general manager for Nepse on August 1 after the post became vacant on July 7 when the term of former GM Thapaliya ended.
