FM radio programme brings changes
Myagdi, December 28:
Laxmi Karki of Jyamrukkot-10 in Myagdi is earning a decent living after she started farming improved varieties of vegetables and adoption of modern cultivation practices since last two years.
Earlier, she was involved in traditional farming practise that could not fetch her a decent living.
“Vegetable farming can really be a profiting business,” she said, attributing her sucees of modern farming to a local Frequency Modulation (FM) programme dedicated to agriculture.
The FM programme has brought a drastic change in her life. She is also aware of the market price and demand of different vegetables, according to the season.
Like Laxmi, hundreds of other farmers in the district are also benefiting from the programme aired by the local Dhaulagiri FM 98.6 MHz. “I now understand how important information can be,” Laxmi who was returning home after selling agro-products in the local market said.
“I have been growing different seasonal and off-season vegetables listening to the FM programme.’ Not only the villagers learned the techniques of modern vegetable farming, but they also formed groups and started saving.
