FNCCI seeks release of Kedia

Kathmandu, May 27

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has expressed serious concern over the abduction of Suresh Kedia, executive director of Kedia Organisation, by an armed gang on Thursday evening.

Issuing a media release today, the federation has strongly condemned the incident. Further, demanding immediate release of Kedia, FNCCI has also urged the government to ensure the right of a secured life of businesspeople and every citizen of the country.

“At a time when such occurrences, including those of kidnapping, seemed to be on the decline, the latest incident has again made industrialists and entrepreneurs apprehensive,” says the statement.

Kedia was abducted by an armed gang from Bariyarpur of Bara district on Thursday evening. The gang of three to four persons had shot at and seriously injured his driver Shyam Sah Kanu before kidnapping the entrepreneur, police said.

The federation has also implored the related agencies to consider the adverse effects of kidnapping of entrepreneurs at a time when the country is undergoing a difficult economic phase and the negative messages that such occurrences transmit in the international arena regarding the country.

FNCCI has also expressed hope of speedy recovery of Kedia’s driver, Kanu, who was injured after receiving a bullet yesterday, and is undergoing treatment at a Chitwan-based health facility.
