Kathmandu, December 2:

FOSS Nepal Community has won Software Freedom Day 2007 Best Event Competition. Other winners are SFD Nica-ragua 2007 Team and Beijing Software Freedom Day (China).

The competition was organised by Software Freedom International, a non-profit organisation, that coordinates the celebration of Software Freedom Day all around the world.

Software Freedom Day is a global grassroot effort to educate the public about the importance of software freedom and the virtues and availability of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), states a press release. This year, the event was celebrated on September 15 all over the world.

In Nepal, the celebration was jointly organised by FOSS Nepal Community and High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT) for the third successive year with

several events including distribution of FOSS, social events, talks, college visits, Freedom Toster, FOSS Solidarity Eve,

Signature campaign, documentary shows and media awareness programme.
