Chitwan, January 5:

Preparation for the sixth Chitwan Festival, scheduled to kick off from January 12, has reached its final phase. Many entrepreneurs have shown their keen interest in booking stalls for this festival, the organisers said.

Owing to increasing demand, stall numbers have been raised to 380 from 300.Uday Kumar Shrestha, chairman of Narayangarh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and coordinator of the sixth Chitwan festival main organising committee, said, “Entrepreneurs are enthusiastic in putting up their stalls in this festival because of the good publicity and help from all sectors.”

The Chitwan festival is gaining more popularity due to motorboat, rafting and boats in the Narayani river, Shrestha said, adding operation of boats will continue in the river even after the festival too.

“The festival will lay a greater emphasis on dairy products this year. The Chitwan district is regarded as the leading district in dairy production,” said Amrita Adhikari, a festival management official. 26 different committees, besides the main and steering committees, have been formed for better management of the festival. The site of the festival is on the bank of Narayani river. Different programmes will start from January 10. A food festival is also scheduled to be organised from January 14 to January 17 in Putali bazaar, the organisers said. The festival this year will continue for 10 days, which is being organised annually in cooperation between private and public institutions, including the government sector.
