KATHMANDU: The gold price surged by Rs 1,000 to be traded at Rs 55,500 per tola on Friday — nearly a two-year high. The last time bullion was priced at the current level was on March 21, 2014, when it was priced at Rs 55,800 a tola. Similarly, silver price also rose by Rs 15 in a single day to be traded at Rs 745 per tola. The last time silver had been traded at the current level was on May 19 of last year when it was priced at Rs 750 per tola. The price of precious metals has surged in the recent days on a wave of safe-haven buying. The price of precious metals is governed by the international rates.
