Govt to revise budget to address UML concerns

KATHMANDU: The Ruling coalition partner CPN-UML agreed to resume discussions on the budget after the Finance Minister agreed to address their concerns in it.

Earlier, the UML had argued that the budget was prepared unilaterally as if it was a majority government of the Nepali Congress.

The party had even threatened to vote against the budget while it would be put to vote.

But, top leaders of the party held a meeting today with Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat and agreed to forward the process after the latter expressed readiness to revise the budget to address its concerns.

Accordingly, a stadium will be constructed in Jhapa, naming after the party’s deceased leader Madan Bhandari.

Likewise, the government also agreed to proceed with the Madan Bhandari University Bill, as per the UML’s demands.

Following the agreement, the House meeting resumed at around 4:15 pm today.

The meeting was called for 11 am, but had not started due to the UML’s threat.

Earlier this morning, the party had formed a three-member team to negotiate with the NC regarding differences on budgetary programmes.
