Honda to expand car mart in the country

KATHMANDU: Honda is planning to expand its car market in Nepal in the coming years. “We are going to expand our car market in Nepal along with the rest of South Asia,” said Masahiro Takedagawa, president and chief executive officer of Honda Siel Cars India Ltd here today.

Taking to The Himalayan Times, he said that they will help boom hand-in-hand the economy of South Asian nations — India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. “India is our potential market today and Nepal will be tomorrow,” he said. However, he did not elaborate the time-frame. “We have long-term plans,” he said.

Honda is a popular brand in Nepal. Three decades before motorcycles were synonymous with the brand Honda. Honda and Hero Honda motorcycles have a good share in the Nepali market.

“I am satisfied with the performance of Honda agents here,” he said, “They are doing a tremendous job.” Honda has planned to increase the market share by 40 per cent in 2010. According to a conservative estimate, around 90,000 motorcycles will be sold here in the coming year.
