Huawei launches Mate 8 and GR5

Bangkok, January 28

Huawei Consumer Business Group — subsidiary of China-origin multinational company Huawei Technologies — launched two of its latest version of smartphones ‘Huawei Mate 8’ and ‘Huawei GR5’ here today amidst a huge event.

Huawei has introduced smarter fingerprint ID technology in smartphone through Mate 8, which will be available in markets across Southeast Asia and other regions of the continent, including Nepal. Along with the regional launch today, the company plans to launch both the new generation phones in each individual country of Southeast Asia gradually.

Huawei claims that Mate 8 is equipped with the most advanced smartphone technology ever with the fastest processor. Mate 8 has 4GB random access memory (RAM), 64GB internal memory, long battery life and other extraordinary technology features. It has been priced at around $670 for Southeast Asian markets.

Huawei had grabbed a share of 9.7 per cent in global market of new generation cellphones as of September 2015.

“Huawei experiences growth in global markets and is becoming the top three smartphone brands in the world,” said Thomas Liu, president, Southeast Asia, Huawei Consumer Business Group.

“Huawei experienced a record-breaking 2015 with 70 per cent revenue increase year-on-year, giving Southeast Asia strong platform to grow. Our revenues exceeded $20 billion in 2015, as we shipped 108 million handsets globally.”

Clement Wong, vice president, Global Product Marketing Department of Huawei Technologies, said that Huawei is pursuing a consolidated product offering to ensure every product is the best option for each market segment.

The Huawei GR5, which was simultaneously launched with the Mate 8, is the latest in its G series of smartphones with similar fingerprint ID technology. It is especially designed for the young generation, as per Huawei Business Group.

The handsets were globally launched during the Consumer Electronics Show 2016, which was held in Las Vegas earlier this month. The sets were extremely well received and were among the best that were launched at the event, as per the company officials.

Huawei Business Group has said that Huawei’s products and services are available in more than 170 countries.
