Dipayal, February 5:

Despite a detailed survey having been completed more than a decade ago, the West Seti Hydro-Power Project construction is yet to commence.

Snow Mountain Engineering Corporation (SMEC), an Australian company, conducted a detailed survey of the project in 1995. As per the survey report prepared by the SMEC 750 megawatt electricity can be generated from the project.

The power plant of the hydro-power project is to be located at Ratamata, meeting point of Doti, Dadeldhura, Baitadi and Bajhang districts.

A 7.35 km long tunnel is to be constructed apart from other infrastructures for generation of hydro-power, said Gajendra Prasad Chaudhary, engineer of meteorology office, Doti. The project, which needs an estimated budget of Rs 100 billion for completion, is expected to provide employment opportunity to more than 15,000 people.

To be completed within six years of commencement of construction, the project

is assumed to open the avenue of development in the whole region.
