Int’l Day for Poverty Eradication today

KATHMANDU: The ‘International Day for Poverty Eradication’ is observed around the world on October 17. This year, the day is being celebrated with the main theme of ‘Building a sustainable future: Coming together to end poverty and discrimination’ as per a press statement issued by Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) on Friday. As nearly one-fourth of the population in Nepal live in abject poverty, the day has special significance for the country. Poverty alleviation efforts have to be strengthened in the context of sustainable development goals being adopted, which has aimed to eradicate all kinds of poverty by 2030. In line with PAF’s programmes in the past, it will be distributing journalism awards in four different categories, along with organising various programmes.
