Iron exports to India rise

Export of iron pipes to India has increased by 140 per cent this year. Iron pipes worth over Rs 1.7 billion was exported to India in 2003, while export in 2002 was over Rs 450 million, according to the main revenue office at Birgunj.

The export of vegetable ghee had decreased due to the quantitative restrictions by India in 2003. Export of ghee to India decreased by Rs 78 million in 2003 compared to the previous year due to restrictions imposed by India. Nepal had exported vegetable ghee worth Rs 2.78 billion in 2002, while its exports in 2003 was worth two billion rupees. Vegetable ghee, iron pipe, tooth paste, polyester yarn, copper wire, Dabur juice and soaps are the other major export items to India through Birgunj
