Jewellery entrepreneurs also demand permission to import gold

KATHMANDU: Nepal Gems and Jewellery Association (NGJA) has demanded the government to arrange the import of gold within the limit set by the Nepal Rastra Bank.

The Association insisted that the government should allow them to import at least 50 % of the quantity of the precious yellow metal from the limit determined by the central bank. The new working committee elected from the 13th Annual General Meeting of NGJA put forth the demand to the government.

NGJA noted that the permission only given to the commercial banks to import gold in the current competitive era has meted out injustice to the entrepreneurs.

NGJA Chairperson Jyotsna Shrestha said the restriction on the part of the government to entrepreneurs would shrink the business opportunities in this sector.
