Jiri Airport to resume operation after 25 yrs

JIRI: The airstrip at Jiri is to be brought into operation after 25 years of its closure.

Addressing a programme organised by Jiri Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ananda Prasad Pokharel, said the process would be forwarded immediately to bring the airport into operation to develop Jiri as a tourism hub.

The 400 square-feet airport has now turned into a pasture.

The number of foreign and domestic tourists visiting Solukhumbu via Jiri would increase once the airport resumes operation.
