Lawmakers demand NT service expansion

Kathmandu, January 27

Lawmakers have stressed the need for expanding Nepal Telecom’s services.

At a meeting of the Finance Committee under the House of Representatives today lawmakers called for effective expansion

of NT’s 4G service. They also complained that the cost of a NT project to develop 4G service was very high.

A Chinese company has been awarded the contract to undertake the Rs 18 billion project. In this regard, they suggested consulting experts before reaching a conclusion.

Surendra Pandey, former finance minister, underscored the need for Nepal Telecom to initiate the process to expand its service at the earliest. He, however, sought impartiality in awarding the contract and quality service.

Likewise, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, another former finance minister, sought effective expansion of NT’s services. The committee’s Chairperson Krishna Prasad Dahal, said experts’ suggestions should be sought for expansion of Nepal Telecom’s services.
