Legislature-Parliament okays deliberations on two finance bills

Kathmandu, January 3

A meeting of the Legislature-Parliament today endorsed proposals presented before the meeting, seeking consideration over the Nepal Rastra Bank (second amendment) Bill, 2071 BS, and Deposits and Loans Protection Trust Bill-2072 BS.

Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel presented the proposals in the meeting amidst protests from the lawmakers associated with the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF). With the commencement of the meeting, Madhesi Front lawmakers picketed the well of House and chanted slogans against the presentation of proposals.

Commenting on proposed bills, Prem Suwal of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party voiced the bills should include issues promoting economic equality and stable economy.

Likewise, Dilli Prasad Kafle from the same party called for making provisions for protecting people's deposits and loans through government banks and invest the funds of the Trust in the hydropower sector.

Finance Minister Paudel said the NRB bill was aimed at making the banking service more accessible to the people and promoting banks to increase their capital. The second bill has been initiated to make the protection of deposits and loans of people more effective.
