More tourists in Tilaurakot

KAPILVASTU: The number of tourists this year increased considerably in Tilaurakot, the childhood playground of Gautam Buddha. According to Lumbini Development Trust, the number increased by 80 per cent. The number including internal tourists was 26,500 in 2008 and 4,700 in 2007. Most of the tourists were from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Korea. However, they are compelled to return the same day as there are no modern hotels and so could not prolong their stay. The sacred site of Tilaurakot is neglected by the overnment. Due to apathy of Kapilvastu Municipality and DDC, Tilaurakot and other Buddha-related sites are suffering economically and have not seen any improvement from the past.
