NATTA bags chance to host UFTAA session

Kathmandu, November 2:

Nepal won the bid against Bulgaria for hosting the 43rd conference of United Federation of Travel Agents’ Associations (UFTAA). The UFTAA session will be held here on November 20-24, 2009.

Ram Kaji Koney, president of Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) said,

“Preparations for the seminar are going on.”

NATTA is hoping for the participation of 79 representatives. “The 42nd UFTAA was held in Manila where the government took all responsibility for security of the representatives. I hope our government will help us in this regard,” Koney said.

NATTA second vice-president Pabitra Kumar Karki said they have asked Nepal Airlines and other airlines to give air fare discount to arriving delegates. Karki has been elected to the UFTAA Board of Directors.

“The seminar will cost around Rs 25 million,” Karki said adding that NATTA was negotiating with hotels and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

NATTA is hopeful of more than 65 countries participating. It has also urged NTB to organise tourism festival and various events during that period to help promote Nepal at the international level as a tourist hub.

The UFTAA seminar is conducted every year and Nepal became a member of UFTAA in the early ‘80s.
