Nepal electricityKATHMANDU: Newly appointed Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma on Wednesday directed the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to cut off power supply to 'big' consumers who fail to pay electricity tariffs on time.

Sharma directed the NEA Executive Director Mukesh Raj Kafle to stop supplying power to 10 of such consumers within three days, according to a Rastriya Samachar Samiti report.

Earlier, the government had received complaints galore that the government had a soft corner for such big consumers, which it would take action against other small and middle-scale customers.

Some big conglomerates, government agencies, individuals close to power centres and industries have failed to pay the dues, according to the government owned power monopoly.
