Nepal should be a regional tourist hub

Kathmandu, May 14:

Although political instability and a decade-long conflict have hit tourism sector hard, Nepal holds immense potentials for both adventure and lei-sure tourism activities, say foreign travel trade entrepreneurs.

They said that Nepal needs to look for regional tourist markets, where the number of outbound tourists is growing every year. They, however, felt promotion and marketing of Nepal as a popular tourist destination is still insufficient.

“Promoting Nepal as a tourist destination and tourism products in emerging tourist generating market like Taiwan is challenging, but the potential is very high,” says Henry Wang of Jensen Express, Taipei.

“Nepal is an appealing destination among Taiwanese for both religious and adventure tourism.”

However, Nepal lacks promotion and marketing in Taiwan. Taiwan generates over five million outbound tourists every year and the number is ever increasing, he said. “Of the total outbound tourists about 10 per cent comprises of religious tourists, particularly Buddhist pilgrims.”

Wang, who is a GSA of Nepal-based Cosmic Air’s for Taiwan and is currently attending Cosmic Air’s GSA meet, said more Taiwanese Buddhists travellers are eager to visit Lumbini.
