Lahan, February 14:

No action has been initiated against unorganised hoarding boards along the highway and the inner parts of Lahan.

The number of boards, both hoarding boards and signboards, is estimated at around 2,000. But none of the advertisement agencies have paid tax to the municipality for the advertisement boards. Lahan municipality executive officer, Shankar Bahadur Karki said the city council was charging from Rs 350 to Rs 1,500 for the exhibition of an advertisement material at a public place. According to Karki, the municipality could earn upto five million rupees every year from such advertisement boards. “In the past, we did not attempt to charge and to bind them legally. Now, we are deploying extra force to bring them within the revenue circle”, Karki said.

Using the Local Self Governance Act, 2055, Lahan municipality has divided hoardings in four categories.
