Owners shut factories down

Birgunj, June 23:

Following a request from Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI), all Parsa and Bara districts-based textile industries have been shut down since Thursday.

The BCCI urged shut down of the textile industries citing chaos in the industrial environment when Workers’ Unions initiated movement putting forward their demands including permanent appointment for workers.

From the textile industries’ side three trade unions — Nepal Trade Union Congress affiliated to Nepali congress, General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (Gefont) affiliated to CPN-UML and Democratic Confederation of Nepalese Trade Unions were called for talks.

When the unions did not arrive for talks, the industries were closed according to previously announced programme. There are 50 textile industries in Bara and Parsa districts.
