PM throws open trade unions’ meet

Kathmandu, October 26:

Inaugurating the two-day Trade Unions’ Conference here today, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ urged trade unions to stand united for ensuring the right of labourers.

Through unity the rights of trade unions’ members can be guaranteed, he said adding that the government was working out a new security arrangement. Urging political parties to unite to write a new constitution, he said, “Failure to do so will create a huge crisis.”

Speaking on the occasion, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) president Kush Kumar Joshi said that the rights of trade unions should be guaranteed. “But first, relations between labourers and investors should improve,” he said.

Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) president Binod Chaudhary said industries would not prosper without industrial peace. “Create an environment of security for industrial peace,” he urged the government.

Addressing the gathering, trade union leaders urged the government to guarantee the rights of labourers and provide them social security.

The conference has been jointly organised by eight trade unions.
