Private sector criticises heavy taxes

KATHMANDU: Industrialists and entrepreneurs on Sunday criticised the government for imposing heavy taxes in the name of collecting revenues.

Speaking at the National Tax Day programme, speakers from Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Nepal Chamber of Commerce said that the government is collecting heavy taxes from the private sector thereby putting a burden on them.

“We have not been able to meet our expenditures due to the heavy tax imposed on us,” said Shekhar Golchha, senior vice-president of FNCCI, adding it has massively affected start-ups and small scale entrepreneurs.

He, however, committed that the private sector is ready to support government’s plans of high economic growth.

Similarly, NCC Chairman Rajesh Kazi Shrestha urged the government to avoid unnecessary taxes on them.
