RBB Gajuri stops loan
Dhading, August 21:
Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB), Gajuri branch stating that its 80 per cent loan is at risk, has stopped sanctioning of new loans to customers.
The RBB central office, saying that loan amount of last twenty years is at the risk, has decided not to sanction new loan until the loan amount is recovered, Nawraj Ghimire, manager of the Gajuri branch said.
“The new loan sanction was stopped after the central office sent a circular of restricting new loan sanction until the amount of loan over seven crores whi-ch is at the risk could not be recovered,” Ghimire added. However, local businessmen have objected the policy of RBB and warned of agitation. “We have already informed the RBB that restricting new customers from taking loans due to its past bad loan is impractical,” Chandrakant Adhikari, vice-chairperson of Dhading Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) said, adding the bank policy has deprived small scale businessmen and farmers to start new investment.
The RBB Gajuri branch has been providing its service in the areas including Duipeepal, Ratmate, Taruka of Nuwakot; Darechowk, Kurintar and Mugling of Chitwan; Ghyalchowk of Gurkha and over two dozen VDCs in Dhading.
RBB at Gajuri and Dhanding are providing banking service in Dhading district. Except these, there is no other banks that provide banking service in the district.
“If the policy of the RBB is not changed, we will halt all the services of the bank and agitate,” Adhikari said. Businessmen blamed the bank’s policy for its bad loan.
