Remote areas to get food grains

Kathmandu, December 5:

Remote areas will ‘soon’ get food grains from the government as Japan has approved the utilisation of the counterpart fund under the Food Aid.

“The government of Japan has approved the utilisation of the Counterpart Fund (CF) under the Food for Aid amounting to Rs 80,100,000 for the implementation of the project for the Transportation of Food Grains to Remote Area,” states a press release issued here by the Embassy of Japan.

The project was approved in order to counter the existing food deficit faced by Nepal, particularly in the remote hilly and mountain districts, because of the low production. Under the project, Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) will deliver an additional 2,200 metric tonnes of rice to eighteen remote hilly and mountain districts besides NFC’s annual programme of delivering 7,110 metric tonnes, states the release.

The CF was established through the financial assistance extended by the government of Japan under the Food Aid (KR).
