Samsung introduces star rating system

Kathmandu, March 7:

In a first of its kind initiative, Samsung has introduced Star labelling on its entire Frost Free range of refrigerators being made in India.

The Star rating on refrigerators, being implemented by Indian Bureau of Energy Efficiency, is expected to come into effect within next couple of months. However, Samsung has introduced the system of Star rating on its frost-free refrigerators from January this year.

The Star rating label gives the energy efficiency of the refrigerator in the form of a rating between 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest rating, states a press release issued by Samsung here today.

All existing refrigerator models are in 2 or 3 star-rating band in the market, only Samsung has achieved a 4-star rating for all models. All the Samsung frostfree refrigerators that are being produced at the company’s Noida, India unit are in the 4-star category as per criteria decided by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.

“We fully support the government’s initiative towards implementing star rating labelling. The star rating not only gives consumers a clear idea on the energy efficiency of the unit he/she is purchasing, but also a clear idea on the power and therefore the cost saving that he/she can derive from that particular refrigerator,” states R Zutshi, deputy MD, Samsung India.

The difference in power saving between a 3 Star rated and 4 Star rated refrigerators would on an average be 100 electricity units over a period of a year.
