Tea production in Dhankuta in limbo

Kathmandu, August 3:

Tea production in Dhankuta district is suffering due to dispute regarding low wage payment to tea estate workers.

According to a press release, All Nepal Tea State Workers Association (ANTSWA) has forcibly put a stop to all work in the tea industry in Dhankuta. Work is at a halt since Asad 13. Due to repeated threats by ANTSWA, they padlocked the offices of Guransey Tea Estate, Jun Tea Garden and Kuwa Pani Tea Plantation. However, the padlock at Guransey Tea Estate was broken by ANTSWA members yesterday.

“ANTSWA is acting wrongly. The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce (FNCCI) is ready to hold discussions to the problem,” said a FNCCI press statement today.
