Kathmandu, September 21

The ninth board meeting of SAARC Food Bank kicked off here from today. The two-day meeting was inaugurated by Minister for Supplies Deepak Bohara.

Addressing the meeting, Minister Bohara urged participants to focus on issues related to supply of food and fixing their rates. He also expressed his belief that the meeting would give a final shape to the ongoing intra-country transportation modality in the SAARC region.

Similarly, Supply Secretary Prem Kumar Rai said that SAARC Food Bank would play a crucial role to promote the concept of food safety in the region.

Rai also informed that Nepal has kept 8,000 metric tonnes of food in stock as per its commitment made in the earlier meeting of SAARC Food Bank.

The meeting of the 14th SAARC Summit held in New Delhi had signed an agreement to establish SAARC Food Bank to supplement national efforts to provide food security to the people of the region.
