Upper Marsyangdi-A hydro project sets target to commission power by end of this year

KATHMANDU: The Upper Marsyangdi-A has targeted to commission power by the end of 2015, as the hydroelectric project has already completed 80 per cent of the construction work.

Issuing a press statement today, the project has said that it has completed the construction of the dam site, a five-kilometre tunnel and the power house. Subsequently, it has also completed 75 per cent of the mechanical works.

Construction of the project was started some two years back.

Upper Marsyangdi-A, a 50-megawatt project being constructed in Bhulbhule of Lamjung district, will install two turbines of 25 megawatts each. The run-of-the-river project is being implemented by China’s Sino Hydro and Sagarmatha Power Company of Nepal.

The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 10 billion.

Likewise, the developer of the project has also started to install 132 KV single circuit transmission line from Bhulbhule (powerhouse) to Middle Marsyangdi hydropower project. The distance between Bhulbhule and Middle Marsyangdi project is 21 kilometres. The transmission line project is expected to be completed at a cost of Rs 250 million.

Nepal Electricity Authority will off-load electricity at Rs 6.95 per unit from this project, as per their agreement.
