US envoy ready to work with Nepali entrepreneurs

Kathmandu, November 5:

Nancy J Powell, the US envoy to Nepal, speaking today at a programme at Confederation of Nepalese Industries’ (CNI) said that she is willing to work with Nepali private sector in its development and help organising Partnership Summit and form a Common Economic Forum.

The envoy also promised to organise video conference between Nepali entrepreneurs and American experts, arrange for the visit of American experts — on World Trade Organisation (WTO) Regime on Textile — to Nepal and

visiting programme of the Nepali young entrepreneurs to the United States.

On the occasion CNI also held an interaction with the US envoy. They discussed on various issues including how can the US play a role in economic development of Nepal.

CNI, during the interaction, highlighted some of the pertaining issues like forming a ‘Common Economic Forum’, including representatives from the private sector, entrepreneurs, famous personalities from home and abroad, civil society, media organisation and donors.

Similarly, CNI also suggested to organise a Partnership Summit to highlight economic and investment zones, attract more foreign investment and check negative news flow as they have tarnished Nepal’s image and scared the investors from coming to Nepal.

Entrepreneurs also requested the American envoy to help develop private sector like it has helped in the 1990s with the liberalisation programme.

The office bearers of the CNI, including Binod Chaudhary, president; Narendra Basnyat, vice-president and Atmaram Muraraka took part in the interaction.

Earlier, CNI has welcomed the new American ambassador to Nepal at its secreteriate at Teku.
