Vegetable production rises

UDAYAPUR: Udayapur has taken the lead in vegetable production this year.

Vegetable production there increased by 10.6 per cent compared to last year, according to District Agricultural Development Office.

The agricultural authority said 18,060 metric tonnes of vegetables were produced in the district against last year’s 16,328 metric tonnes. It is to be noted that the district used to rely on Indian markets and neighbouring districts for vegetables some years ago.

However, with more people taking up vegetable farming commercially, Udayapur has itself become a vegetable basket.

Out of the total population, vegetable production per person has increased by 6.89 percent and reached 60.98 kg, the agricultural office said.
