Gas contract

SEOUL: South Korea’s LG Corp has said it had secured a $1.48 billion order from Turkmenistan to build a natural gas processing plant. LG said it teamed up with Hyundai Engineering, a major South Korean builder, to clinch the order worth 1.7 trillion won ($1.48 billion) from the state-run Turkmen Gas. Construction was to begin in January with an expected completion date of 2012, the company said, adding that it would be the largest construction project yet to be built in Turkmenistan.

Safety steps

MOSCOW: Russia will ban imports of chlorine-treated poultry starting from January 2010, chief sanitary doctor Gennady Onishchenko was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency Wednesday. “We have finally confirmed the norm according to which imports of chlorine-treated poultry will not be allowed into our country starting January 1, 2010,” Onishchenko said. The new norm “would not involve any poultry produced in the EU,” which had banned chlorine-treated poultry, he added. Earlier Russian officials said that several major US producers also agreed to conform to the new standard.
