Adventures of the trio

Premiering on Cartoon Network January 4, 1999, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, created by Danny Antonucci, became the fifth official Cartoon. Danny Antonucci is the creator, writer and director for Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Danny has been working in the animation industry for over 20 years, serving in all capacities from storyboard artist to producer. Antonucci began his career at Canimage Production, a division of Hanna-Barbera, where he worked on the Scooby-Doo series. He went on to work at International Rocketship Ltd, animating short films and television commercials. According to Danny, the stories for Ed, Edd, and Eddy come from his childhood and what he remembers of living in suburbia and being stuck without any organization during summer vacation.

Ed, Edd, and Eddy are three adolescents who are constantly trying to figure out how to be cool and get their hands on some enormous jawbreakers. Edd is the brains of the outfit, ever so cautious and weary of the greedy Eddy’s hair-brained schemes. Ed is just dumb and smelly but those are his good points. The trio is best friends among each other and is outcast from most other kids of their age. The most popular kid in the neighborhood, Kevin (a jock, natch), thinks of the Ed’s as “dorks”. Always looking for new ways to make money for jawbreakers, Ed, Edd, and Eddy can be sometimes relentless in their pursuits. Basically, all they want to do is have fun. A typical plot for Ed, Edd, and Eddy involves the trio trying to get home naked, while at the same time making sure nobody sees them. As immature as the characters which star in it, this show is essentially about kids and growing up. Acne, girls, and awkwardness, Ed, Edd, and Eddy can be compared to the life of a real life early teen. Usually, the boys are humiliated by the end of each episode, but they don’t seem to mind much. With the ability to bounce right back from every predicament... they are always ready to get their greasy hands on that ever-rarest jawbreaker.
