‘I did Mangal Pandey for Amir: Rani’
Mumbai: Though Rani Mukherjee has only a cameo in the period film ‘Mangal Pandey - The Rising,’ the talented actress says she fell in love with the character of the prostitute she portrays in the film. Rani said she also wanted to be associated with the film because of director Ketan Mehta and Aamir, her co-star in an earlier hit ‘Ghulam.’ Rani said she was at a point in her career where she could pick and choose her roles and she wanted to do only meaningful roles that would be “remembered”. “Amir was my first hero in ‘Ghulam.’ After that there was a long gap until ‘Mangal Pandey.’ Today we’re very close friends. The equation
is different. I remember how he used to show me to do scenes (during ‘Ghulam’). He still tells me how to do my scenes. I did ‘Mangal Pandey’ for Aamir. I can never say no to Aamir or Shah Rukh,” said Rani.
