Boxers are strong, muscular, medium sized dogs. They are given the name Boxer because when they fight, these dogs strike with their front feet, much in the manner of a boxer. These dogs are very playful, sturdy and deep chested. The chest is deep, reaching down to the elbows.

The back is short, straight, and slightly sloping. They have a short muzzle and a slightly upturned chin. The head and muzzle have wrinkly skin, which give them unique appearance.

Their eyes are dark brown, showing a lively and intelligent expression. The ears are set wide apart at the highest part of the skull and lying close to the cheek.

The feet should be small and well-arched toes like cats. The hind feet are slightly longer than the front.

Boxers make great pets for all the family, adults and children alike. They are full of stamina, not quick to pick a fight, but can defend themselves if needed. They remain puppy like throughout their lives.

They can be very destructive if they are left alone at home for long periods of time. They love busy households and where there is a lot going on around them.

Average size

Boxers are about 21-25 inches tall at the shoulders and weighs around 25-32 kg.

Coat colour

Their coat is brown with white markings or totally white in colour. The colour also ranges from red to fawn, through various shades of brindle, usually with some limited white markings.

Intelligence

Boxers need to be dominated when being trained. They are quick to learn good habits as well as bad ones. They need to know that their owner knows best as they can be quite willful.

Food requirements

As Boxers are very active dogs, it’s better to feed them twice a day. They are not really greedy dogs. Some boxers have sensitive digestive systems so they have to stick to a strict diet. A dry food is often favoured for this breed.

Lifespan

They usually live for 9-15 years.

Pet grooming

These dogs can be easily groomed. Their coats are short so a rubber-grooming mitt used once or twice weekly will keep the coat in good condition.
