Anna Nicole's bodyguard speaks out in court

LONDON: Anna Nicole Smith's former bodyguard has testified against his former boss, Howard K. Stern, in court - revealing he often watched the lawyer inject the tragic model/actress with drugs.

Maurice Brighthaupt, who desperately tried to revive Smith after his wife found the star close to death in a Florida hotel room in 2007, told a Los Angeles court on Wednesday (14Oct09) he once encountered Stern in a bathroom, burning a spoon and drawing liquid from it.

He recalled Stern, Smith's longtime companion, told him it was Valium. He then injected the liquid into the actress.

Stern, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich and Dr. Sandeep Kapoor are being charged on counts of conspiracy to furnish the late Smith with drugs. They have all pleaded not guilty.

On the stand, Brighthaupt, nicknamed Big Mo, also recalled watching Smith take ecstasy and drink Cristal champagne preceding an appearance on the American Music Awards.

He told the court that his charge started taking large doses of chlorohydrate following the death of her son, Daniel.

Brighthaupt said Dr. Eroshevich once flew to the Bahamas with a bottle of the liquid.

The preliminary hearing continues on Thursday (15Oct09) with a testimony expected from the father of Smith's daughter, and Stern's one-time love rival, Larry Birkhead.
