Kathmandu:
Pradip K Bajracharya knows his Newari culture: after all, it his own culture that he has been following for a long time, in art and lifestyle. Besides, the festivals celebrated by any community have a sort of social dynamism, a strength that keeps social relations intact among its members. Bajracharya’s second solo exhibition titled ‘Festive Images’ gives one another perspective on festivals in Newari culture. Bajracharya encompasses festivals celebrated in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur. “I like to call it ‘semi-abstract’ painting,” he says. He has used vibrant dense colours to express the energy and dynamism of the festivals. Red is the most repeated. The inauguration of the show was accompanied by Dhime music by artistes typically attired in Newari costume. Litterateur Manjulm commented: “This dance seems to bring to life the paintings here.” The paintings capture festive moods morning, noon and evening. All 47 acrylics are being showcased at Buddha Gallery till March 27.
