Artistes lend voice to children’s plea for peace

Pepsodent ‘Sangitik Itihaas 2060 — Malai Santi Chahiyeko Cha’ was held on March 27 at Birendra International Convention Centre in aid of creating a children’s park. The show was organised by Siddhartha Art Gallery, World Peace Propagation Forum, Ournepal.com and Infinity International. Malta International managed the event very well and the official media was The Himalayan Times.

The MCs were Jaya Nishant and Yeshwaswi Shah. Deputy mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Raja Ram Shrestha also attended the event. In the programme it was announced that Kathmandu Metropolitan City has donated 11 ropanies of land in Sinamangal, Kathmandu for the park and the money collected from the event will also be utilised to build the children’s park at Sinamangal.Classical band Sur Sudha together with Anil Shahi opened the concert with their impressive music. The touch of classical added flavour to the pop concert which was different yet impressive.The renowned singers of Nepal — Deepak Bajracharya, 1974 AD, Karma Band, Aastha Band,

Nirwan Music Link, Karna Das, Raman Shrestha, Lochan Rijal, Nalina Chitrakar and Bijay Lama/ Manoj Singh — were the other highlights of the event. Each sang their original numbers and one song each, a poem based on ‘Peace’ written by children. Sunil Bardewa could not attend the event.

1974 AD sang two of the new songs “Pinjara Ko Suga” and “Gurasai Phulyo” from their yet to be released album ‘Pinjara Ko Suga’. 1974’s Phiroj Syangden’s (lead guitarist and lead vocalist) daughter Rojnita rendered the peace song “Shanti” by Bijaya Poudel from Gyanodaya Bal Batika. Phiroj stated, “1974 AD thought that why not let a child sing the poem of another child rather than us. That will be more meaningful.” Her own father on lead guitar and Sanjeev on madal accompanied Rojnita.

Naren from Aastha band sang alone the track “Shanti” by Santosh Darlami from Mt Valley Medium School. His one and only other band member Sudip is not in Nepal. He shared that this was the first time he had sung a number composed by another person rather than Sudip. “I am just trying to be the voice of the children who want to spread the message of peace in the country. I think it is my duty to help them in whatever way I can.”

Deepak Bajracharya also sang a new track “Sakdine Ma” and still the audiences were voting for his melodious track “Kali Kali”, “Oh Aamira” and more.

Mahendra Raj Karki, whose poem “Malai Shanti” was sung by Bajracharya, said, “I am thankful to the organising team for bringing forward my poem to the masses.” Sophina Luintel whose poem “Shanti Ko Kamana” was sung by Karna Das, shared, “I am feeling proud of myself as Karna Das has sung my poem. I want to thank him and the organisers.”

The artistes also handed over a certificate of appreciation and gift hampers to the creative children.An album ‘Shanti Ko Sapana — Song of Peace’ was also released by the children who had penned the songs.
