Awards for deserving girls

Kathmandu:

This year’s Princess Jayanti Achievement Awards was held on August 4 at Hotel de l’Annapurna. The award, which is in its sixth year, is given to the highest scoring female students studying Bachelor in Hotel Management at the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM).

This year’s winners are — Sapana Agrawal Khadgi (first year), Asha Basula and Indira Lama (second year), and Lkhapa Yangjee Sherpa (third year).

The winners of first and second year were given prizes worth Rs 30,000 and the winner of third year was given a three tola gold medal.

The chief guest of the programme Gorakh SJB Rana handed over the awards to the winners.

Secretary, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Leela Mani Paudyal, Executive director of NATHM, Ram Prasad Ghimire and General Manager of Hotel de l’ Annapurna Jagmag Basnyat were also present at the function.

While speaking at the function, Paudyal pointed out that people involved in the education sector should take the initiative to urge the authorities concerned to create an amicable environment for the improvement of education.

Basnyat talked about the contribution of Princess Jayanti towards women empowerment and enhancing the careers for women in the tourism sector. He also said that the motive of this award is to encourage girl education and also to enhance manpower in the tourism sector.
