Basinger's involvement in Baldwin's hospitalisation

LONDON: Kim Basinger's father has spoken out to defend the actress against allegations she prompted the emergency call which led to her ex-husband Alec Baldwin's hospitalisation.

The 30 Rock star was admitted to hospital in New York on Thursday (11Feb10) after a frantic 911 call from 14-year-old Ireland, the actor's daughter with Basinger.

Basinger's brother Skip claimed Ireland, who was in Los Angeles, called for paramedics to check on her dad in his Manhattan apartment after he refused to answer her calls following a heated argument.

Baldwin was released after a brief check-up and his representative subsequently dismissed the hospital visit as one big "misunderstanding".

His spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, said, "This was a misunderstanding on one person's part. Alec was quickly released from the hospital; he's completely fine..."

After his medical examination, Baldwin was allegedly heard "complaining that his daughter was put up to do this by Kim Basinger to embarrass him" ahead of his prestigious stint as co-presenter of next month's (Mar10) Academy Awards, according to the New York Post.

But Basinger's dad has dismissed the claims, insisting the L.A. Confidential star has no interest in getting involved in her ex's life after the bitter divorce and custody battle that followed their separation in 2000.

Don Basinger tells the New York Post, "She couldn't care less what Alec Baldwin does or doesn't do.

"Anybody with any common sense at all knows that Kim wouldn't do that to embarrass him before the Oscars."
