KATHMANDU: It was a special occasion at Gurukul on November 20 as Dr Uttpal K Banerjee’s book titled Indian Theatre in 21st Century was released by Prof Abhi Subedi.

“The book incorporates professional, ideological and cultural matters about theatre along with the challenges faced by it. It also shows the power of performativity in modern times,” said Prof Subedi of the book.

Dr Banerjee expressed his happiness and said, “I’ve tried to bring forth what the directors at times couldn’t fully convey in their plays and bring it the readers.”

As the book also has sections on Nepali and Bangladeshi theatre, Dr Banerjee said, “I think it is only political distributions that have made theatre in these parts different, but the soul is common from culture, ethos, heritage and legacy, so I have written about theatre in these places as well.”

Kiran Manandhar gifted a painting inspired from the book to Dr Banerjee.
