Kathmandu:

With the intention to develop the pre-reading concept development, six illustrated story books were launched on February 10 by the Himalayan Country Office on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Save the Children USA.

The books launched were Putali ko Bihe (A Doll’s Marriage), Manachinte Jhola (A Wish-fulfiling Bag), Chattu Syal (Cunning Jackal), Ko Thulo? (Who’s big?), Pi Pi Baja (Pi Pi Horn), Yuva Khulduli (Youth Curiosity). The last one focuses on the issues faced contemporary adolescents, while the others are simple stories for younger children and carry a moral message. The books were launched by six special children guests, who also gave their opinions on the books.

The books have been penned by Srijana Sharma, while illustrations are by Chandan Dhwaj Rana, Raju Chitrakar, and Basu Kshitij. Sharma said she was inspired by the concept of “reading for children”, which has parents reading with the children to make them comfortable with books and spur their interest to read more.

The chief guest of the functions was joint secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Arjun Bhandari. Dr Chudamani Bandhu and Rajesh Koirala gave their expert comments on the books.
