CAN Softech caters to various tastes

KATHMANDU: With a view to enhance the software industry in the country, and give the software seekers a good opportunity to fish for their choice of software, the CAN Softech 2007 is going on at the DECC, United World Trade Centre, Tripureshwore. More than 75 stalls have been put up at the expo by around 50 national and international companies, and government ministries and departments.

One stall boasted of providing web page hosting at one of the lowest rates in the Valley. In another stall, some students were seen curiously checking out a jigsaw and computers for children, while there are various stalls providing a host of software ranging from banking, airlines, accounting, hotel management, interactive educational, and a long list of other software.

According to the organisers, in the two days, they saw visitors, albeit less in number, mainly of students and businessmen.

Said one young A-level student Pradip K Singh regarding the stalls, “It’s quite good. I found the web page hosting and web designing better. However, I wish they had some more stalls catering to students of our age group.”

An MIS officer from a reputed bank Narayani Ghimere also commended the expo. However, he also urged the participants to have more “web-based” software than “client-based” ones. The expo will be on till May 5.
