Celebrating New Year’s Eve

Kathmandu:

Food, music extravaganza

With great variety of cuisines, rocking performances by two great bands and amazing dance session, the party at Nepa Dhuku hall, Hotel Radisson was one you wou-ldn’t have wanted to miss.

The party began at around 7.30 pm with the performance of the famous band 1974 AD. Their musical treat lasted for around two hours, following which the name of the door prizes winners were announced. The winners got travel tickets and free lunch coupons at various restaurants and hotels. Then came in Time Machine to resume the musical treat.

At the Fun Café was laid out a range of mouthwatering Continental, Indian and Thai cuisines and luscious desserts. The ice carvings too looked beautiful. As the hands of the clock slowly went past the 12th hour mark, the partygoers exchanged New Year greetings amongst each other. DJ Rocky kept grooving the audience late into the night.

Suiting everyone’s taste

What is needed to make you and your friends’ New Year’s Eve amazing? Great music? Standard crowd? Finger-licking food? Well, Himalaya Hotel, Kupondole, had it all in its ‘Fiery Night’.

With a red and white the-me, the party began at aro-und 7 pm and went on past mid-night. Everyone found something his or her taste, be it in food or in music.

The band Connection entertained the audience performing popular English, Hindi and Nepali numbers. Their repertoire included old hits and latest popular Nepali and Hindi numbers. DJ Umesh also had the crowd rocking as he churned various hit dance numbers. There was a wide variety of Continental, Indian, Italian, Chinese and also Thai cuisines on offer. The guests welcomed 2008 wishing each other, and the party went on till 1 am.

Partying the Thamel way

New Year Eve 2008 celebrations started early at the most happening party hub Thamel. The traffic as usual was a bit too much, so the main road was blocked for vehicles. The stage was set at the opening of the road where the crowd had gathered to dance to Nepali, Hindi and commercial Hip-Hop mixes played by the DJs. The free dance party had its good and bad points. Youngsters seemed to be enjoying, dancing to the mixes but as the evening moved on many guys started drinking heavily and started showing rowdy behaviour, they even acted indecent with the ladies.

Live music was played by various bands around the pubs and restaurants of Thamel. Blues band Nekhvam performed some most loved rock and roll cover songs like Road House Blues and few of their own compositions at North Palace Restaurant and bar. The locals and foreigners seemed to enjoy their electrifying performance as they kept on asking for more. The well-known Sarangi player Shyam Nepali along with other musicians performed live at Tantra Restaurant and bar. Playing popular folk numbers they were successful in making the crowd present to get up and dance. It was difficult for those who wanted to go pub hopping as the road was over crowded even to walk. Some selfish people were least concerned about others and decided to park their cars in the middle of the road adding to the traffic jams.

The Maroon Lounge was filled with fun loving youth dancing to tracks like Hare Ram Hare Ram, Lose control, Soni de nakhre, Sexy back, Gasollina and many more. As the clock struck 12 everyone hugged each other wis-hing a Happy New Year, they could not stop screaming wishing all those present and kept enjoying the parties past mid night.
