Chand takes over as Conservation Ambassador

KATHMANDU:

As Miss Nepal 2007 Sitashma Chand celebrated 100 days of glory, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) appointed her its Conservation Ambassador for the year. At a function held on July 16, former Miss Nepal Sugarika KC, who was the ambassador for the last two years, handed over the responsibilities to her.

Chand will primarily be involved in various conservation activities with WWF, and will utilise her popularity base in the city to raise awareness on nature conservation among today’s youth, according to Trishna Gurung, communication manager at WWF.

“I will first do an internship at WWF to orient myself with various wildlife and conservation issues,” Chand shared. “Then I will work to the best to my ability for nature and wildlife conservation,” she added.

Chand will share her experiences in her own TV show. “Her main area of action would be to highlight the link between climate change and fresh river waters. Climate changes negatively impacts fresh river waters,” said Gurung.
