Divine art
KATHMANDU: Religious conviction inspires art in many, and Do-il, a Buddhist monk from Korea, is one such case.
Do-il became a monk in 1989 and came to Nepal eight years ago in search of Buddha’s birthplace. She has been living in Nepal since then and her devotion found outlet in her thanka paintings, a traditional form of Buddhist art.
Though not a trained artist, she learned to paint in Bouddha and has been doing some artwork for the last several years. An exhibition of her works titled, ‘Thanka paintings’ is being exhibited at Gallery Nine. These paintings will travel to Korea for a consecutive exhibition. The exhibition will continue till April 23.
