Dr Adhikari’s guide to lead a healthy life
KATHMANDU: “We should change our lifestyle to fight germs, rather than depend on medicines,” writer Dr Raju Adhikari said at the launch of his book Yasto Hosh Jiwanshaili at the Nepal Academy on February 17. The book was launched with plea to all to lead a healthy life by guests Dr Bhagwan Koirala, activist duo Dr Sundar Mani Dixit and Krishna Pahadi, Dr Govinda KC, veteran actor Shiva Shrestha, Secretary of Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, and comedian Manoj Gajurel.
“In the Google age, the world is literally in our hands. We know everything of the outside world, but unfortunately we don’t know the inside of our body. This book is meant to connect the outside and inside worlds,” he added.
The launch was carried out in a unique way. Gajurel interviewed Dr Adhikari regarding the book on stage.
When asked for justification in publishing such a book, the writer answered, “Nowadays, Google comes first, teacher comes second. But there are so many things in our ancient books and manuscripts that we have forgotten. I have written those forgotten things which is important to lead a healthy life.”
The book has been divided into three parts — Jiwanshaili Utprerana, Yasto Hosh Jiwancharya and Yasto Hosh Jiwanshaili. Jiwanshaili Utprerana has dealt with science, revolution and chaos of lifestyle. Yasto Hosh Jiwancharya gives the formula to lead a healthy life. Yasto Hosh Jiwanshaili deals with topics like yoga-exercises, sleeping style, sex style, cleanliness style as well as mobile and computer styles.
Dr Adhikari, who has a PhD in Yogic Science and Human Consciousness, pleaded with the public to eat healthy. “We are children of Rishimunis (sages). We don’t find proof that human beings should be carnivorous... If we focus on our eating habits and diet, we will be healthy.”
Agreeing with him, Dr Koirala said, “There are many styles to live a healthy life. Dr Adhikari has given certain ideas. I’m not saying we should follow his idea word to word, which is not possible. But if we focus on our eating habits and eat proper food, then we can be healthy.”
Dr Adhikari, an activist of the Bagmati Clean-up Campaign, has written three other books — Khane Kasari Piune Kasari, Yog Pani Garau Bhog Pani Garau and Tapaika Laagi Yog.
