Expressing through blues

Kathmandu:

“The Blues are the true facts of life expressed in words and song, inspiration, feeling, and understanding.”

— Willie Dixon

Third day of the “Himalayan Blues Festival 2007”, was alltogether a different experience than the previous days. May be it was the new venue, Rush Bar at Lazimpat or the mood of the musicians playing music together. The green and fresh surrounding was taken over by chic and contemporary décor of the lounge. Audiences comfortably seated in the comfortable sofas were waiting for the

programme to start. The evening of musical journey started by Danish artiste Dan Klarskov. Klarskov proved that blues is not just about sad feelings and expressions of oppression but it can also be humorous. His lyrics of the first song raised some brows and received some whistles from the guys. But all were sure it was going to be a night full of fun.

His performance was followed by Jocose who like the previous night jammed up with Juha Lindgren. Though they have been performing every night the audience do not seem to get enough of their incredible performance. But it was the performance by the house band Looza that received the loudest applaud and chanting of ‘once more’. It was a great evening with blues musicians from around the world sharing the stage and creating fusion through their music. With the performance of the Finnish band Black River Bluesman the evening ended with a grand jam up session between the artistes present. The finale of the festival will be held at the Nuchhe’s Kitchen, Baluwatar on September 9.
